Blog Purpose + Introductory Post

There are a few potential reasons that you could be reading this blog post, and a few reasons for why I wrote it in the first place. Let's walk through those together now - first identifying the possible paths that took you to this screen.

Maybe you are reading this post from a date much later than May 31, 2019, and you are simply revisiting a blog which since has greatly either entertained you, inspired you, or became world-renowned for its quality of writing, grasping and engaging content, and impeccable humor. None of that is very likely. Perhaps, instead, you were browsing my Instagram bio and couldn't help but click the link to this page which is sadly this single blog post and nothing more (I've been known to ambitiously start projects to only shortly abandon them and move onto the next one - a habit I'm hoping to kick with this blog), but that is not my intention as I write this. The reason why I hope that you are reading this is because so far I have engaged you enough through my writing to be interested in all of the topics I plan to write about, which include media and music reviews, fashion posts, political and pop culture commentary, and other interests of mine. That brings us to the next factor in this equation: the reason why I'm here writing in the first place.

I am exactly that. I am Andy Wilcox and I am a writer. The endless questioning and incredulous looks that I have received when explaining to yet another distant family member or judgmental family friend that I am in college pursuing a degree in English not to teach or to one day put myself through law school are completely worth it when I am doing what I love - which is sharing my perspective, knowledge, and thought processes to entertain, explain, and solve real world problems. I've recently been reading a book (listening to one on Audible.com, but that still counts right?) written by Hector Garcia and Albert Liebermann entitled Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life. The book discusses the title Japanese concept of "Ikigai", which allows those who discover their Ikigai to fulfill their purpose by giving something to the world that both fulfills themselves, provides for the world around them, and allows them to financially sustain themselves in doing so. I am certain that writing effectively, in some form, will allow me to one day achieve my personal Ikigai. I'm not sure what my path moving forward will look like, and at this point I'm not sure any of us truly do - but as summer continues to commence, I see this as an opportunity to begin sharing what I love to do with whoever has made it this far in a post to listen.

Another post incoming shortly... I'm not sure what about yet. Still figuring out this site and how exactly I want to format everything, but something will be coming soon. Or not, who knows?

Until then, you can follow me on all social media @datzcoo.
